SUMMARY:Lookie Lookie
DESCRIPTION:Lookie Lookie revives bugal : insanely catchy songs by Richie Ray\, Joe Cuba\, George Guzman\, Pete Rodriquez\, Eddie Palmieri which merge mambo with elements of soul and American pop. It was the hottest genre of Latin music in the late sixties before the advent of salsa.\n\n\n\nLookie unites veterans of Boston's Latin\, jazz and rock scenes into a powerful and joyous eight piece ensemble. Musical direction comes from the Grammy-nominated leader of the Either/Orchestra\, Russ Gershon\, and spiritual direction from two of the grand maestros of the Latin community: Vicente Lebron (Dominican Republic) and Jorge Arce (Puerto Rico). Members have played with artists as diverse as Tito Puente Jr.\, Bim Skala Bim\, Cab Calloway\, the Alloy Orchestra\, Club D'Elf\, Mulatu Astatke\, Mighty Sam McLean and Rock'n'Roll Rumble winners Eddie Japan.\n\n\n\nFeaturing strong soloists and deep\, complex Afro-Caribbean grooves\, Lookie also brings an element of jazz exploration to its mix. In the Latin tradition\, everybody sings choruses and three members take turns singing lead. Lookie finds surprising sources of material: the book includes Jimi Hendrix\, Ornette Coleman\, and the Tornados\, among others.\n\n\n\nIf you love percussion and melody\, you're coming to the right place! You don't need to know the first thing about Latin dancing to shake your booty to Lookie Lookie\, but if you are a mambo expert\, that'll work too. Or you can sit and enjoy the musical journey - there's plenty for your ears.
